Hi there! I'm new here as I'm beginning the "process" to my surgery date.
I've met with Dr. Koren and found him and his staff to be comforting.
Since my appointment in June 2006, I've begun the madatory diet program
that my insurance requires and have been seeing my Primary Care Doctor each
month, to check my weight. I keep reading all I can about WLS, and am
getting really jazzed. I'll check back when I get my BIG DATE.

Hi folks.. I haven't posted before but now I have a lot weighing on me (
pun intended)
As of August 8th I will have in the 26 week period of diet & exercise
tracking by my doctor, which is required by my insurance before being
approved for GBS. I had been doing fairly well, neither gaining or losing
but staying the same weight until about a month ago when I broke my ankle.
Since then I have gained 8 lbs between not moving as much and the swelling
of the legs.
This is so uncomfortable and the legs both hurt. Right now I am feeling
pretty down about everything.. the ankle pain & swelling, worrying if my
surgery will be approved, the weight gain, hoping my doctor's notes are
detailed enough, etc. I am just tired all the time and I have no energy or
desire to do anything but sleep & even that gets old. I feel bad for my
poor husband who has to deal with a fat miserable gimpy wife right now, but
I try to focus on the big picture and remember that this too will pass. The
waiting is hell & it gets hard to deal with at times. I just want this
surgery to be over and be on the road to recovery already!I guess I just
had to vent somewhere. Thanks for reading and good luck on your journey! PS:
Feel free to RSVP and tell me to quit my whining! lol -- Mary D

I am post-op a little over 1 week and couldn't be more thrilled with Dr.
Koren, Ann and most of all Mandy Nyce. They are all heaven sent. Dr. Koren
is the best surgeon ever!!!!!
His office staff is courteous and so helpful with all of the needs my
husband and I had. The office is very well rounded and they ensure you have
an appropriate understanding of everything that is required for this
procedure. Overall I would say Dr. Koren is a 10/10!!! Mandy Nyce is our
favorite bariatric coordinator, she was there with us throughout the
surgery and post-op was just like an old friend! She is truly a special
person. Extremely knowledgable, understanding, reliable and very much a
great support person for all patients.
Anyone considering using Dr. Koren, should know that all surgeons are not
this good.
Once again I am a week post-op (June 28th) and feeling great. I am up and
aound and have been walking around my neighborhhood every day, even my kids
join me. I am eating pudding, applesauce and plenty of water, crystal light
and other sugar free drinks. It sounded very hard to consume all that
liquid in a days time, but its like second nature. My 1 week post op showed
I am
losing weight like crazy.
Not everyone gets a second chance at life and thanks to Dr. koren, I feel
like I do. I am going to live this one to the fullest!!!!!
Thanks again, Dr. Koren

Hi all! I am 4 days post-op (had surgery May 5) and my stomach certainly
does smart a bit but I am feeling great! The first 24-48 hours were
terrible, it felt like men were taking turns whacking me in the ribcage
with baseball bats, but things are getting progressively better every day.
If you are pre-op, don't kid yourself- this procedure HURTS- but not for
very long (I can walk around slowly, go up and down stairs, take a shower,
etc. without too much pain, and I haven't taken a painkiller today).
Dr. Koren, Mandy and the OR team were WONDERFUL, I was operated on at
Easton Hospital and the nurses/other people in scrubs that I don't know
their titles, that assisted with my surgery were just THE loveliest women
I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. They have an obvious great working
rapport with one another; they made me feel SO much better going in,
someone was always holding my hand or saying something encouraging. The
last thing I remember before I was knocked out for the surgery was one of
them telling me 'Goodnight, Heather!' Great staff!
Got on the scale just for kicks today and I've lost 10 pounds (in 4
days!)- I'm guessing most of that is water weight but it feels great
nonetheless!
Gonna get back to bed for a bit, I can't sit in a chair for too long right
now but I'll post again later on. Take care all (and to anyone afraid to
get it done- just DO IT!! You won't regret it!) -- Heather Gillespie

Hello everyone, it won't be long now and I should have approval for
surgery. I wish the insurance companies would just give approval over the
phone. Ann from Dr. Koren's office has been very helpful. She is sure
that everything is complete before she submits to the insurance. It makes
a difference having someone like her handling the insurance companies. I
am very greatful for all of her help. Maybe someone will post a message on
this board. Happy Easter to everyone. -- Michele Tersigni

Hello, I have been reading how great everyone is doing. I am new to all of
you. I am hoping that I will be able to loose weight. It has been really
helpful reading all of the messages that you have all written to each
other. I have a few more things to complete and then the paperwork can be
submitted to my insurance company. This will probably seem like the
longest time in my life. Are any of you on CPAP? On Monday I will have my
CPAP titration study and hopefully by the end of next week have it in my
home. I am driving my husband crazy at night. I will be attending a
meeting Tuesday Night for the first time and hopefully I will get to meet
some of you who I have read about. The last thing I will need after next
week will be my one on one with the nutritionist. How long did it take
after all of your paperwork was completed to hear from the insurance
company? I have BC/BS of Northeastern PA, Highmark. Did anyone have any
problems getting approval from them?

I'll go first on my latest up date. March 9 will be 3 months since my
surgery and I can't get over how time just seems to pass me by now. I'm
happy to report that I'm down 82lbs. YOU GO GIRL!!! I'm finally enjoying
life and I'm looking forward to this summer so I can get out side and enjoy
some real sunshine without getting over heated and having to run to the
comforts of the A/C unit. My eating is not all that great. I go through
phases with my eating. I'll nibble off and on one day and then go for 3 or
4 days with hardly eating anything. It's actually nice not having food on
my mind all the time. I still have all my hair which is a good sign. I take
my vitamins every night along with my biotin. I think the biotin is helping
with the hair. Everyone have a good day. I'm off to work. -- Cute & Sexy Donna

much wieght that they vanish off the face of the earth. Nobody posts to Dr.
Koren's surgery page here anymore. I would like to hear how everyone is
doing, good, bad, had surgery or having surgery. -- Cute & Sexy Donna

I'm currently at about 7 weeks post-op and I'm feeling like anew person.
The first week right after surgery was a bit rough but I couldn't believe
how good I actually felt after having major surgey. Yep, you do feel like
truck hit you but, after a week to 10 days, you're well on your road back
to normal. the more you walk, the better you'll feel. I am now down 33 lbs
and can't believe the positive comments I've received from co-workers. They
are very supportive and eager to ask questions and I'm more than willing to
answer! I'm so glad I went through this surgery. I have had some episodes
of vomitting but they were my own fault- too big of bites and I didn't chew
well enough and food got stuck in the esophogus. I have learned the hard
way! Looking forward to buying a brand new spring wardrobe in sizes I
haven't even touched since I was 18 years old 20 years ago! -- Kathy Hartman

Teresa,
Your doing fine and if you where not then I would think Dr. Koren would
tell you. He is soft spoken but very up front when it comes to our health.
I have my days where I hardly eat anything and might only eat once a day
and then I have my days where I swear I grew my stomach back, lol. I think
we all come out of this surgery with that fear that our Pouches will fail
us or we fail our pouches. Give it time, you'll see the results. It's like
don't beat yourself up over how much and how fast you drop the pounds.
Everyone loses at different rates. I have been stuck on 272lbs for the
passed week. This morning I lost a WHOLE POUND. Don't laugh, a whole pound
is better then nothing *GRIN*

Hi guys,
Well here I am 10 days out, thought Iwas run over by a train, but Gina
and I did wonderful. Love that Dr.Koren to pieces. First postop yesterday,
down 12lbs. ;) Diet advanced, I am afraid though that I am not doing things
right. Dr. Koren said to introduce things slowly back to our diet. I am
doing great so far, but scared that I might be eating too much. I had 1/2
cheeseburger no bun and tablespoon carrots and was able to tolerate well.
Eat it seems small amts. all day long. Anyone else afraid they are doing
too well with eating. Help me calm my nerves. Thanks for all your prayers.

Hi everyone...well 5 more days, and Gina and I will be on our way. I am so
anxious, and nerveous. Almost doesn't seem real. Please, please pray we
both have a great outcome, and the lord keeps us in his care, before,
during and after surgery. Same for all of you.
Thank you,
